In November, I started making a bunch of Rainbow angels. This hippie has tie-dy-ish rainbow stripes to send love and peace out in the world. It can be hung in the home year-round or on a holiday tree in December.
Steel wire has been hand-bent into the angel and heart shape, after which the heart was embellished with a teabag. Then hand-colored and tissue paper was attached with encaustic medium. It comes with a silver satin ribbon for hanging. This angel measures 3.5 tall by 3.75 wide and 3/4 inch deep.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
Be gentle if handling the ornament in extreme heat or cold. It is best to let the piece acclimate to room temperature. Hanging it in direct sunlight may cause some fading over time.Â
