On one of my trips to my homeland I picked up a package of Delft Blue napkins with familiar Dutch scenes. Over the years, I’ve converted these images into wire ornaments and pendants, and my customers say the kissy couple makes a perfect paper anniversary gift.
I hand-formed steel wire into a round shape with a heart on top. Then I dipped the napkin tissue into encaustic medium, and adhered the couple to the wire form. Then I cut the paper shape to size with an exacto knife. If you know a couple celebrating their first year together, or just want to celebrate their love regardless of anniversary markers, this is a fun and whimsical gift to give.
This ornament measures 2 1/4 inches long by 2 inches wide and comes with a white satin ribbon for hanging.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
