Celebrating a fresh new Main Street

I’ve recently been re-watching Gilmore Girls which reminded me that I live in my own Stars Hollow.

My Main Street just underwent 3 months of construction which was tough on our small businesses but we kept block parties and wine walks going to keep foot traffic coming.

To celebrate the brand-new sidewalks and un-pot-holed smooth asphalt the Main-Dempster Mile threw a block party on a picture-perfect day.

I enjoyed strolling the street without worrying about car traffic, like many of my neighbors.

Children were making their mark with chalk art.

Two stages offered live music by local artists.

Evanston Made created an art alley with local artists showcasing their creations.

Food trucks and food pop-up lined the span of the 2 blocks from Hinman to Sherman, offering a variety of street food to nosh on while wandering.

I opted for Soul ’n Smoke’s brisket Mac ‘ n Cheese.

It was fun to see neighbors come together. Some were already in the Halloween spirit.

Rotary International promoted the Summer Fair that will replace Custer Fair.

Our neighborhood has some fun fall and Halloween displays that I have been photographing throughout October.

I am really glad our retailers finally catch a break, and hope the holiday season gives them a boost after the third year of construction along this street.

I am excited to see the landscaping grow in next Spring, and watch the new trees thrive.

The only loss is candy cane lane, but I am told we will get a charming replacement in lighting next year as well.

Meanwhile The Lucky Platter is my version of Luke’s Diner.

And I love getting pampered at Eden Agora Spa.

I look forward to taking art classes during winter season.

What’s your favorite season? Fall always dazzles me with its golden array, but then Spring and Summer make me fall in love with life and nature all over again as well.

My Herfst family name does make me partial to Autumn, however.
