For the bookish person in your life, a literary angel is the perfect gift. This angel was made from an introductory page of Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield.
Steel wire was hand-bent into the angel shape, embellished with swirl. A page discussing David Copperfield and Dickens’ writing process was cut out and dipped in encaustic medium, as well as tissue paper for the wings and head. The paper was attached to the steel wire with the beeswax and resin mixture. It comes with a brown hemp cord for hanging. This angel measures 3 1/2 inches tall by 5 inches wide.
Custom Angels with other authors can be created. Allow 3 weeks for a custom order, pending availability of the literature.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
Be gentle if handling the ornament in extreme heat or cold. It is best to let the piece acclimate to room temperature. Hanging it in direct sunlight may cause some fading over time.Â
