Musical Wax and Wire Pieces seem to sell out all the time. This angel embodies the cheerful and lovely opera The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Steel wire was been hand-bent into the angel shape, embellished with a curlicue of a violin clef and half note. A portion of sheet music was cut out and dipped in encaustic medium, as well as white tissue paper for the wings and head. The paper was attached with the beeswax and resin mixture. It comes with a white cord for hanging. This angel measures 3 tall by 4 inches wide and 5/8 inch deep. Custom (public domain) music options are available. Please allow 3 weeks for a custom order.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
Be gentle if handling the ornament in extreme heat or cold. It is best to let the piece acclimate to room temperature. Hanging it in direct sunlight may cause some fading over time.Â
