Nothing says “tu es un ange” (you’re an angel) like this lovely Parisienne creation. Embellished with an Eiffel Tower charm, this angel points the way to the #1 tourist destination of Paris with its lovely couture.
Steel wire was hand-bent into the angel shape. Then a pewter Eiffel Tower charm was attached. A portion of a Paris map from a travel guide was cut out and dipped in encaustic medium. Then the map and hand-inked tissue paper attached to the wire with the resin and beeswax mixture. The angel comes with a white satin ribbon for hanging. This angel measures 3 1/2 inches tall by 4 inches wide.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
Be gentle if handling the ornament in extreme heat or cold. It is best to let the piece acclimate to room temperature. Hanging it in direct sunlight may cause some fading over time.Â
